It’s a great pleasure to reflect on what has been an outstanding season for the U/10s team. From the very first game, the team showed enthusiasm and a great spirit of sportsmanship, which was maintained throughout the season.

Despite it being the first season of cricket for the majority of the players, everyone hit the ground running which resulted in a win with our first game.

We made Galston Oval our ‘home ground away from home’ and played some of our best matches there. It was great seeing the whole team arrive early each week, keen to get warmed up and get into some cricket.

Everyone’s batting and bowling skills continued to improve week by week and it was evident that the hard work being put in at training was paying off.

As the season progressed, we managed to score more runs, bowl less wide/no balls and even learnt the value of protecting our wicket.

Above all, everyone had fun every week. Whether we have won or lost, the team remained positive and focused on enjoying the game. It has been fantastic to see the smiles on the faces of all our players each week, no matter what the result. We even had the rather amusing opportunity to learn about ‘pressure’ when we were beaten by 1 run on the last ball by Glenorie.

Overall, it has been a great season. The improvements in skills, dedication to sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the game have all been outstanding. We look forward to building on this success in the future and seeing what the next season holds for this amazing group of young players.

Ario Maleklou

Ario brought plenty of enthusiasm each week which clearly rubbed off onto other players. After hitting a 4 with his first ball it was clear that he has the potential to be a terrific cricketer and had a fantastic season as a result. Always with a smile on his face he exhibited confidence with the bat and ball, making an excellent all rounder for the team.

Samuel Drayton

Sam threw himself into the difficult role of Wicket Keeper and did a terrific job. He continued to improve each week and demonstrated great skills not just with the gloves but also with the bat. Another thing that really stood out about Sam was his team spirit. He was always cheering on his teammates, encouraging them, and helping them to stay focused. He is a player with plenty of potential.

Hudson Woods

Hudson is a big hitter who knows how to find the boundary often. He was just as dangerous with the ball, taking many wickets throughout the year with his superb line and length. His sharp eye for the ball and quick reflexes means he no doubt has a bright future ahead. A natural cricketer who is a real asset to the team.

Max Summerhays

Each week we got to see Max’s enthusiasm and passion for the game shine through. His net sessions and practicing off the pitch allowed him to improve his game more and more each week. He was a key player on the team, contributing both with his fielding and his batting. He showed a lot of improvement in his bowling, and his figures kept getting better with every match. His hard work and dedication were evident in the way he approached every game.

Aston McBrien

Aston’s success this season was a testament to the power of practice. He improved his batting significantly, and as the season progressed was able to hit the ball with greater power and consistency. His bowling was excellent too and he began to exhibit even greater accuracy whilst not sacrificing too much on speed, taking wickets in the process.

Matthew Hope

One of Matthew’s greatest strengths was his exceptional fielding ability. He was quick on his feet, had great reflexes, and never missed a catch. His fielding led to plenty of wickets being taken across the entire season. His bowling continued to improve throughout the year and his batting was also excellent, never shying away from the fast balls and able to find space to notch up plenty of runs on the scoreboard.

Aryan Singh

No one perfected the skill of the quick single as much as Aryan. He was always thinking one step ahead and is young cricket player with a talent for both batting and bowling. Throughout the year we got to see his extensive capabilities with a variety of pitches and excellent control. He had a knack for scoring important runs when the team needed them most.

Hayden Crema

Hayden has a great sense of timing, and he put in some truly incredible batting performances throughout the season. His athleticism and agility ensured his skills also extended to bowling and fielding, making him a terrific all rounder. It was great watching his progress as his confidence grew with each match.

Arush Singh

Arush had an incredible season, and he should be very proud of himself. One of the most consistent players in the team he regularly knocked up an impressive score with the bat and managed to make the wickets tumble with the ball. His ‘can-do’ attitude helped to assist his continual improvement throughout the season and can’t wait to see how he goes next year.

Senior B2's

This season unlike every other season was very enjoyable and it’s great to be back playing without any delays to the start of the season due to covid. Last year we made the semis in C2’s but this year we jumped up a grade to B2s. During the season we have a balanced team of batsman and bowlers. The B2’s team consisted with several familiar faces and a few additional players that played a few rounds that provided a huge impact to the game.

At the first half of the season the first two games were washed out causing a delay to the start of the season. There were two one day games being played at Kenthurst Park but we just fell short and only lost by a small margin. However, we won 2 two-day games against teams in the top half of the ladder and a draw. The results kept us in the hunt to remain in the top 4 before the new year. The against Beecroft was a much needed one posting they posted a score of 299 and we managed to bat out the day scoring 7/250. I would like to thank John Marks for filling in and putting on a hard fought 20 runs and staying in the middle for a huge amount of time.

The second session coming back from the new year we had another washout. The following game we managed to post a very high total of 292 in a one-day game against castle hill. And we bowled them out for 97. The next two games were one day games, but we lost both causing us to drop down the 6th position on the ladder. The effort was there but just couldn’t get the win. Round 12 against the Sydney Lions was a must win but we fell short therefore the next two games had to be won by outright to make the top 4.

The last two matches

Round 13 against St Ives we were asked to bowl, and we fielded really well stopping critical runs and the bowlers bowled stump to stump. No one gave up even though the chances of making the semis were very slim. During the day St Ives were bowled out for 116 and we declared with a 40 run lead at the first drinks break of week 2. We then managed to bowled St Ives out again for 77 in 28 overs and needed 37 runs to win outright. This was done in 6 overs to secure the outright win against the top team.

The last round of the season we played Hornsby and the result was very similar to the previous round. Week 1 was very hot and humid and Hornsby won the toss and no doubt batted first. We were very determined in the field to roll these guys so we can bat as soon as possible. This was achieved by knocking Hornsby over for just 84 runs and we posted a score of 175. Ahead by 91 runs , the remaining 6 overs must be bowled and we were 1/17 which was a major bonus to start week 2.

The next week the wickets kept coming and Hornsby were bowled out for 90 in 44 overs. I would like to thank Liam and Juan for filling in on the field which was a huge help to the team.

The game finished at 3:20pm and some of us decided to watch the Beecroft game. The reason is that Beecroft needed to win to allow us to make the semis.

Beecroft were chasing 148 and they were 3/28 .When we arrived at the game they were 5/90 allowing the game to go either way. We were in the Beecroft section of the shed supporting their team and the runs were flowing until a few wickets were lost. Beecroft were 8 down needed 12 runs to win, then another wicket fell and then they were all out. They lost by 12 runs and our season was all over. Missed out on the semis by 2 points.

During the season I would like to thank Mark Hickson for setting up the game whether it’s the stumps or putting out the cones for the field. Looking at everyone in the team there was rounds where batsman scored a huge amount of runs. Everyone scored critical runs and just to name a few: Paul Muston was very consistent with the bat posting very high totals. Also, the top run scorer in the team. (396) Juan Becker just fell short of a century and 2 50’s, Sam Summerhayes a 68 and a 87, myself with a century , Nick with a 82 and 61, Paul Lown making a few starts to the bat and Brendan Vaz a 55.

There were matches that we were bowler heavy allowing plenty of bowling options mostly every game. We bowled well as a team and lots of wickets were taken. Sam topped the bowling with a total of 24 wickets followed by myself with 20 , then Nick with 16 and John. There were rounds where we were missing players due to filling in for A grade, sick or on holidays during the Christmas period and some very handy wickets were taken by the names not listed above.

In the field everyone played their role in stopping critical runs and lots of catches were taken at different positions of the field. The energy in the field was there and everyone kept their heads up if things were not going our way. Paul M and Liam both got the most catches in the team (7)

At the end of the season winning the two outright games was an achievement itself. But goes to show every game is critical and the ladder can constantly change during each round. If you have a look at the ladder on my cricket, we came first in the 2 day games and 2nd last in the one day games. I really enjoyed this season and hope to see everyone back for the next one.

Senior D's

The D Grade side for 2022/23 consisted of juniors from last year’s U15’s team as well as some established seniors. It was a great opportunity for the juniors to gain experience playing senior cricket, and the team dynamic was fantastic with the older members passing down their wisdom to the younger members. On a personal level, I was able to play with my son’s Lucas and Blake for the first time and this was a thoroughly memorable experience. I can highly recommend it to any parent thinking about it.

Although the season started off slowly, as the juniors became more comfortable playing senior cricket, the team's results improved. The team's primary focus was to give everyone a good opportunity to play and support the development of the junior players. A big thank you to Andrew Williams, the regular captain, for supporting this philosophy. As a result, the team's performance improved throughout the season, culminating in a draw against the eventual winners of the competition in our final game. Congratulations to the team on that result and a special mention to Gregory Carran for batting for the entire day.

The team had several highlights throughout the season. Congratulations to our opening bowler (and captain), Andrew Williams for scoring his first ever century! It was an incredible innings that saw the ball flying to all parts of the ground. This display of batting saw the game turn in just a few minutes and brought up our first victory for the season. It also resulted in our highest partnership of 112 runs with Lucas Archer at the other end.

Another highlight was seeing Harry Taylor in his first full season of cricket go from strength to strength. The season started with some extra training sessions for Harry, and this helped his skills develop. His bowling was the first aspect of his game to take off and it was great to see him take so many wickets. His most memorably innings with the bat came in the second half of the season when he was able to bring up his first ever runs, hit is first boundary and survive undefeated for almost an hour. Congratulations on a great season Harry!

Congratulations to Matthew Smith who’s batting also developed during the season. It started soon after Christmas with the ball flying off the bat during our net sessions. Matthew waited until the last game of the season to translate this newfound form into a match when he hit double figures for the very first time. It was so pleasing to see this improvement and his contribution helped the team secure a well-deserved draw.

A special mention goes to John Campo, who played his 400th game during the season, a remarkable achievement. The juniors appreciated having John on the team, and he was able to pass down his wisdom to the younger players. It was also great to see John spend some time at the crease in his 400th game, remaining not out, and almost taking a wicket when he opened the bowling for the team.

Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable season, and I look forward to seeing everyone again next year.
